What Slop Squash is, and what the circle means

Slop Squash is an extension for Chrome and Firefox. As you scroll a site like X, Reddit or YouTube, it checks the posts, comments and images near your screen and, when something looks AI-generated, draws a small frosted circle with the squash mark in the corner of the post.

Tap the circle and a card opens that explains the verdict: how confident the checks are, which detectors ran, what each one found, and which checks could not run on that content. Nothing is hidden from you on the free tier; the card is there so you can judge the evidence yourself.

What it checks

• Provenance. Content Credentials (C2PA) signatures, EXIF and IPTC metadata that names a generator, and watermark checks where a public verifier exists.
• Writing patterns. An on-device analysis of the text: sentence rhythm, vocabulary models overuse, lists of three and so on. Every triggered pattern becomes a note in the card.
• Community. A shared, anonymous cache of earlier verdicts and reports, keyed by a hash of the content.
• Pro checks. A generator classifier that works on pixels when the metadata has been stripped, and a model recheck for a second opinion. Their results are cached, so everyone benefits from them.

What it does not do

It does not change the sites you visit, post anything, or act on your accounts. It never sends your browsing history or page URLs anywhere; only the content it checks and the hostname of the page leave your browser, and you can switch even that off with on-device only mode.

A flag is a score, not a fact about a person. Detection is probabilistic and can be wrong in both directions. See Why false positives happen.
