Supported sites and what gets checked
Dedicated adapters for nine platforms, a generic adapter for everything else, and the rules for which text, images and videos are examined.
Updated
Sites with a dedicated adapter
X (Twitter), Reddit (new and old), YouTube (comments, thumbnails, Shorts, watch and embed pages), Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and Hacker News. Adapters know where posts, comments, captions, bios and quoted posts live on each site, and who wrote them.
Everything else
A generic adapter handles other sites: paragraph clusters of at least 120 characters inside articles, list items and comment blocks, and images of at least 200 by 200 pixels outside navigation, headers and footers. Blogs, forums and news comment sections generally work; single-page apps with unusual markup may not. See Report a site that does not work.
Frames and embeds
The extension runs in every frame, so embedded tweets, Instagram and Threads posts, TikTok and Bluesky embeds and YouTube embeds are checked by their own platform's adapter inside the frame. A frame that is sandboxed without scripts cannot be inspected; the card says "Embedded frame could not be inspected".
Text
Posts, comments, replies, captions, bios and article bodies of at least 40 characters. Shorter text (titles, one-word replies) is skipped and gets no circle. Text is capped at 8,000 characters per item.
Images
Regular images including responsive sources, large CSS background images (Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook covers), link-preview images, inline SVG that embeds a raster image, and video posters. Images under 96 by 96 pixels as rendered, avatars, icons, emoji, tracking pixels, sprites, canvases and plain inline SVG are skipped. GIFs and other animated images get provenance checks only; the card says so.
Video
The container of MP4 and WebM files is scanned for a Content Credentials manifest and the poster is checked as an image. Frames are not analysed. YouTube players use the video's public thumbnail. See Videos, GIFs and thumbnails.
Never checked
Audio and podcasts, PDF viewers, browser-native pages, ads inside recognised ad containers, closed shadow roots, and slopsquash.com itself.
