Connect a YouTube channel
Authorise read-only access through Google once. We read the channel's identity and numbers, store a snapshot, and discard the tokens.
Updated
Steps
- Sign in with a verified email and open the creator portal.
- In the Channels card choose Connect YouTube.
- Google asks you to choose the account that owns the channel and to grant read-only YouTube access. Confirm.
- You are returned to the portal with "Connected YouTube" and the channel listed with its subscriber count and the date it was verified.
What is read
One request: the channel you own, with its title, handle, thumbnail, subscriber count, lifetime view count and creation date. That snapshot is stored on your creator account and the access and refresh tokens are discarded immediately. Nothing else on the channel is read, and nothing is ever written. See Google Limited Use and your YouTube data.
Refreshing the numbers
Choose Refresh next to the channel. It runs the authorisation again, because we keep no token, and replaces the snapshot.
Detaching
Detach removes the channel and its snapshot. It is refused if it is the only channel on a pending or approved application.
Common problems
- "That account has no channel." The Google account you chose has no YouTube channel. Choose the account that owns it.
- "Already verified on another Slop Squash account." A channel can belong to one account at a time. See A channel is already verified on another account.
- "You cancelled on YouTube." You closed or declined the consent screen; try again.
- An "unverified app" warning from Google. Google reviews apps that ask for the YouTube scope; until that review completes the consent screen may warn. The scope and the data use are exactly as described above.
