Taxes for creators
Stripe collects your W-9 or W-8 during payout onboarding and issues any required information returns such as Form 1099-NEC. We never receive your tax forms.

Your status
You are an independent contractor. Commissions are stated exclusive of any tax, and you are responsible for all taxes, social contributions and filings that arise from them, including income tax and self-employment tax, and VAT or GST where applicable. If you must charge VAT or GST on your services to us, tell us in advance.
Tax forms
Your tax identification and residency information is given to Stripe during payout onboarding, not to us: Form W-9 for US persons, the applicable Form W-8 for others. Where the law requires, Stripe prepares and delivers the information return for commissions paid through your connected account (for US persons, currently Form 1099-NEC), using the information you gave Stripe. You can manage delivery of those forms in your Stripe Express dashboard, linked from the creator portal.
Stripe may withhold tax where the law requires. Payouts cannot be made until Stripe reports that your required tax information is complete.
Corrections
We do not receive your tax forms and cannot correct them. Update your details in the Stripe Express dashboard or contact Stripe.
Records we keep
Financial records of conversions and payouts, including Stripe transfer identifiers, are kept for seven years for tax purposes, even if you later delete your account, with your identity replaced by an opaque reference.
